The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

The Saturday epic contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.
